Ambassador: Diane Batchelor

Age Group: 50-54
Sports Bio: I didn’t start running until I was almost 30 – totally disliked any form of running in school but once I moved to New York I wanted to meet other people without hitting all the bars in Manhattan! I joined Front Runners New York without a clue what to wear or how to run. They taught me that fashion sneakers were a big no no along with big hooped earrings! With their encouragement & coaching within two years I was running the NYC Marathon finishing with a time of 3:33:18 followed by Marine Corps Marathon (3:27) & the 100th Boston Marathon (3:34) – I was hooked!

Moved to California 14.5 yrs ago and ran solo, slow and unmotivated on & off for about 10 yrs until someone mentioned a running club called Forward Motion – little did I know that by joining the club would provide me with such an uplifting experience. I had literally found another reason for life! My enjoyment for running continues – allowing me sanity, great friends & good health.
This is my second year as a member to the Ambassador Team – I feel honored and proud to run for a club filled with a variety of talents and honored to give back to such a caring community.

Highlights of Past Season:
Davis Stampede 10K- 5th OA, 1st AG
Diablo Trails Challenge 10K – 1st OV
Wharf to Wharf – top 100 females 4th yr in a row.
Walnut Festival Run 5K- 4th OV, 1st AG
Lafayette Reservoir Run 5K- 2nd OV, 1st AG
Berkeley Half Marathon – 1st AG, PR.

Worst Race Experience:
Fortunately I had not experienced a worse race until this January (2014). I ran the Hot Chocolate 15K injured & without much training due to my injury. I was not prepared and probably shouldn’t have run. Although the opportunity for post race refreshments to include melted chocolate & marshmallows could not keep me away!! I struggled through the whole race – slow & painful.

Favorite Race Experience:
New York City marathon – first marathon ever – which I ate my way through – it was one huge buffet!! A unique experience running through the five boroughs of Manhattan and enjoying each borough for its diversity and distinct character.
